Factors that may increase the risk of developing cancer of the larynx include:

    • Tobacco use
    • Alcohol abuse
    • Poor nutrition
    • Human papilloma viruses (HPVs)
    • Weakened immune system
    • Occupational exposures
    • Male gender
    • African American descent
    • Increasing age
    • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
